Weekend Update: First Responders and Weeds

And just like that we're back at Monday. Except for today isn't all that bad for me since I am not going into work with my mom and I have nothing to do but laze around with Colby Jack. My weekend started out pretty eventful on Friday so let me tell you what happened.

Friday I met up with my friend Colleen at Lake Calhoun to hang out on the beach. IT was pretty windy and therefore too cold for swimming but it was fun to just lay out and chat. While we were talking we heard this loud crash and everyone on the beach stood up to see what happened. There was a car accident on the street! Colleen is a nurse so I of course told her it is her duty to go and check on those people (plus I'll admit I'm a little nosy). So we walked over to the scene and three different cars were involved. We checked on the first two people that we saw. There were fine other than a sore shoulder and majorly banged up cars. We then walked over the to third vehicle to see how they were. We spotted someone sitting on the grass with four dogs, she was the driver of the third car. We asked her how she was (she was fine physically) and then offered to stay with the dogs while she talked with the police and called her insurance company.

We ended up being there with the dogs for at least a half hour trying to calm them down. Two of them were pretty anxious. After a while her sister came and helped her out and then eventually they had figured out what they needed to and took the dogs back. I felt so bad for them but thankfully every person and dog was okay and uninjured. I was pretty excited that we there and able to help them out.

After that we went back to the beach for a while and talked some more. We finally left around 6 and I headed to my grandma's to weed her garden. She started a garden this spring but has been neglecting it and the weeds were taking over. I got about half way done but it was a lot of progress. I still need to go back over there this week to finish. And now I know that gardening is not for me. Relaxing and fun are not words that I would use to describe it ;) Plus it doesn't help that I didn't plant the stuff and therefore don't know where things we put so I have no idea what is a weed and what isn't.
BEFORE^^^^ after about 15 minutes of pulling

Saturday I sat around the house and didn't do too much or most of the day. It was Ashley's birthday so around eleven at night we went over to her place to celebrate. She had dinner alone with Christian and then we went over for some drinks. We walked to the bar by their place to do some pull tabs but they were already closed so we decided to go to the casino instead. Us girls did some pull tabs there while the guys played some black jack. Both of the guys walked out with winnings while neither of us did. But it was fun.

Sunday we slept in from our late night and then went to my cousins grad party in the afternoon. I hadn't seen that side of my family in a long time so that was nice. Before we went there we stopped at Ashley's job to surprise her and drop off her birthday present because I didn't give it to her the night before. That was fun.

And then we ended the weekend taking care of Colby Jack. He found a small plastic cube that he tore up and ate part of earlier in the night and a few hours later got sick from it :( I felt so bad for him. But he is feeling a lot better now thank goodness. And that sums it all up. How was your weekend?

First Apartment Tour

Happy Thursday friends!! I have been helping my mom out all week in her summer school class with a bunch of kindergartners so I have been looking forward to today since there is no school tomorrow. It isn't that I don't enjoy hanging out with the kids but more so the pain of the early mornings. I need sleep!! Well anyway today I decided would be a good day to show you guys what my first apartment looked like. Ya know now that I am moved out and all. I took these pictures a while ago when I first moved in but never posted them because I had since added so much. I intended on taking updated pictures but never got around to it so these will have to work.

I only have pictures of my bedroom because I basically didn't own anything else in the rest of them rooms. My roommates supplied mostly everything for the living room and kitchen and since we were college kids with limited income those rooms weren't exactly pretty to look at. They worked perfectly for us but they weren't what I would consider something worth seeing again haha.

The ugly green blinds came with the room so don't mind those. I eventually added a canvas picture of Jamal and I to that little wall. The one I got here from Easy Canvas Prints

On this ledge I added my MN string art plus all of my books. I loved this ledge and thought it looked great, wish I would have gotten a final picture of it.

I had a blue shower curtain that I hung up here in front of my closet but it was on the floor more often than not. For some reason I just could not get it to stay up but it looked really nice when I did get it up. Also that picture up there on the wall that you can't see very well, I drew that. Sometimes I can be semi talented and creative so that's cool.

I added a few pictures and a calendar (that I never changed the month on)  to this wall. Plus by the end my desk was so cluttered!

And above my little plastic dresser I had a big wall sticky thing that I put up. I loved the size of it and thought it completed the room.

So that's that. My very first apartment. Not too bad right?

Weekend fun: Moving out and Psycho Suzi's

Well guys, today is my first day with no job. It feels pretty weird not having to go into work today and I am definitely missing all of my co workers but my mom is keeping me busy but having me go to work with her. She is teaching summer school and needs help with splitting her class into groups, my sister usually goes with her but she is out of town this week so I get to be the lucky helper. So much for sleeping in.

Saturday was spent moving and cleaning out my apartment. It was a long day and I still need to go back down to turn in my key and officially sign out. So I will be back there again sometime this week. I had plans of going out Saturday night but I was exhausted from the weekend of moving and decided to stay in. Plus Colby Jack needed some company since he was home alone a lot.

To make up for Colby J being alone most of Saturday I made sure that everywhere we went on Sunday he was welcome. Jamal is always a slow mover on the weekends but we eventually made it out of the house and to the dog park. Some dog there tried to fight with Colby Jack so that was fun...after a few failed of attempts of them trying to get along they left so Colby Jack could make some new friends in peace and not while getting growled at and jumped on.

We didn't stay at the park too long after the mean dog fiasco so we left and met my mom to go to Psycho Suzi's for some apps and drinks. It was our first time there and I really liked it. We sat out on the patio and the weather was perfect. It was a really fun place and you do not feel like you are in the city at all. Plus the drinks were good :)

We needed the night like we usually do, watching a few episodes of something. Last night we chose to go with Leverage. It is so good. I am glad we decided to watch it. For dinner we ended up getting pizza. We found a special for a medium pizza for just $3!! Can't say no to that. Although now that I am home with Jamal and currently not working I am hoping to make us some healthy meals so we avoid eating out.

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

Saying Goodbye to the Best Coworkers Ever

Today is a bittersweet Friday. I am currently working my last shift with the best co workers ever so while my heart is so so sad about leaving them I also can't help but be happy to move back home and see the two loves of my life every single day. But that doesn't mean today isn't hard. I have never been so heartbroken about leaving a job before. I love my coworkers so much and they have grown into friends, I hate that I won't be seeing them everyday anymore. The feeling is so surreal because I have thinking and planning leaving for weeks but now that it is here I can't believe and don't know what to do.

Yesterday was my last day with one of my managers since he has today off. He was the best manager ever. I am so sad that he can't be here today. Other than the fact that I had to say goodbye to him a day early this has been the best last week ever. I literally could not have asked for anything more. Last week was miserable. Tons of drama, so shorthanded, and everyone was just plain stressed. This week has been such a 180. It has been peaceful and everyone has been getting along. I am so glad that this was my last week so that I could leave on the best note possible. I am a pretty awkward person and I think that goodbyes are even more awkward soooo yea we shall see how the day goes. To make up for my most likely weirdness today I wrote all of my coworkers farewell notes to tell them how much I appreciate them and really will miss them.

As of right now I do not have anything lined up but I have some things that I am working on and will hopefully be finalized soon. I am going to try and enjoy this in between time as much as possible because I have feeling life is going to get pretty crazy very quickly.

I hate that I haven't had anything good to blog about lately. My mind has been consumed with leaving this job and finding what is next. Not very exciting and I am sure you don't want to read about that every day. I hope we do some fun stuff this week so that I at least can come back next with with a good weekend recap. But I must be going now, as you are reading this I am most likely talking about how much I am going to miss all of my lovely co workers.

Have a great weekend!! Talk next week :)

5 Things No One Wants To Hear After Graduation

Today I am linking up with Erica for Listed Tuesdays.

5 things I am tired of hearing now that I have pretty much graduated:

What do you want to do now? I have no idea! Honestly, I am just trying to find a decent job.

Are you going to do something fun and exciting like travel? Uh, nope. I don't have the money to, because you know I just spent thousands upon thousands getting a degree and my choice travel buddy (Jamal) has a job that he can't just up and leave for a few weeks.

You know you need to go to grad school now. Really? Thanks for that but can I just be happy about getting my first degree for a minute before you try to push me back in?

What are your career goals? Finding a job that I enjoy and pays the bills. Nothing too crazy.

What can you do with a management degree? Everything and nothing at all. Seriously though, I originally enjoyed the broadness of it but now I am lost at sea and have no idea where to go. Help?

I do enjoy everyone's excitement and happiness for my journey, It means so much to me that people care what is going on in my life, but sometimes it just gets to be a bit overwhelming when I have no answers and am feeling confused so then when people ask me something I don't know I feel bad and way behind in life. But if you have a great and realistic suggestion or a fantastic job for me then please keep talking :) Because it is all new to me and I have no idea what I am doing.

4th of July Weekend

I hope you had a fun 4th of July. I did. It was very different from any other year but still enjoyable. We kept it super low key just hanging out and enjoying the day. It was a super stressful and long week so we were tired plus the weather was not the best, the coldest 4th I can remember so we spent most of it inside relaxing and it was really nice. We did manage to grill some bacon wrapped hot dogs, chicken, and steak. So that was good :)

My cousin Meagan came into town from Oklahoma for the weekend and we celebrated her birthday from back in June on Saturday with a few friends. Her mom planned out the day for us. We started the fun by going to The Salt Cave. I had no idea what to expect, I was thinking it would be more cave like but it was actually in a strip mall type place. We waited in the lobby for our session to start and then we went into the cave. It was a small room made of salt. The walls and ceiling were made of salt and the ground was made up of small pieces of salt, kinda like a rocky beach. During the session salt is grounded and circulated around the room. The particles are super small and we couldn't even see them until we took a picture with flash. It was so crazy.

There are a ton of benefits of being around Himalayan salt plus it was just a relaxing experience. There were chairs to sit in that we used but we also opted to sit on the floor for some of the time. I thought the room would be warm for some reason but it was kind of cool and the salt on the floor was cold. We had a private session which was nice because then we didn't have to worry about being quiet.

After the salt cave we went back to Meagan's for some Chinese take-out and chatting. Her mom got a ton of food, we were all stuffed and then we had cake too! After hanging out and taking some pictures everyone went their separate ways. Jamal was out and I wasn't quite ready to go home so I went over to keep Ashley company until Christian got home.

And Sunday was basically a repeat of Friday, lounging around the house not doing much of anything. We did start a new show, Leverage. Have you seen it? We love it. So that's pretty exciting. How was your 4th?

What Goes On At The Bank? Helpful Tips To Make Everyone Happier

Happy 4th of July week!!! This is my favorite holiday and this year I have no plans for it. Kind of lame but at least since we are house sitting I can just sit by the pool all day long. Not too bad I guess. And now for the awkward transition into the point of this post...

I love working in a bank. This is my second job as a teller and it is my absolute most favorite job. It's a combination of the atmosphere, my co-workers, and the job itself. I just love it. But that isn't to say it is always a good time. There are just some things that customers do at the bank that should always be avoided. I feel it would beneficial for everyone to have a banking lesson in high school telling them the do's and don't's of banking but since that doesn't happen I will give you some tips. Your tellers will forever thank you if you heed my words.

  1. Please do not walk up to the teller and just hand them your check and tell them to deposit it. There is this thing called a deposit slip and it needs to filled out, generally by the customer. So when you walk in go over to the little area with all of the supplies and fill it out ahead of time. It makes the process much quicker. Also do not complain when we ask you to fill it out, most banks require it to be done by the customer.
  2. The above also goes for withdrawing money. You can not just hand me your check card and tell me you want $100. There is a slip that needs to be filled out and yes you have to fill out every line on it. Not just some.
  3. When you want to get money back please please please do not get upset when we ask for ID. It is for your protection. Seriously people. Also, it does not matter how long you have been banking with us, if I don't know you I need your ID. Plain and simple.
  4. When you are in the drive-up, do not touch the call button multiple times or upon arrival. We see you. We will greet you. If you need something simply send the tube in and we will see what it is you need. But that call button. We hate it. Avoid it at all costs.
  5. Have your money facing the right direction and in order. It makes our lives a lot easier and I imagine yours too. We seriously wonder how people can count it when it is all over the place and a mess.
  6. Do you best to keep your paper items wrinkle free. There is nothing worse than a wrinkly check trying to go through the MICR.
  7. If you write checks, we greatly appreciate being able to read the handwriting. It is hard to make sure that everything is correct when we can't make out anything written.
  8. If you are writing a check from your account at one bank to deposit into your account at another bank, make the check out to you, the name of the person on the account it is being deposited into. NOT THE BANK. I can't tell you how many people make their checks payable to the bank. That is not how it works, you want the money in your account right? So make it payable to you. Simple.
  9. If you don't know how to do something, ask. It beats filling it out wrong and then getting upset at us because we didn't do what you want. We are not mind readers.  I have no problem explaining how to fill out a deposit slip but if you need some help come inside. The drive up is not the place for instructions on filling out forms.
  10. This one confuses me greatly, if you want to cash your check you do not need a deposit slip. A deposit slip is for when you want to deposit your money into your account. Not needed if you are not depositing. Makes sense right?
  11. This one probably does not apply to most people reading this because if you have internet access I really truly hope you have online banking but if not, get it. Please, if you can refrain from calling the branch to get your balance, find out what has cleared, see if your check has been deposited or anything else related to your balance and something that can be done online. There is nothing more frustrating then answering the phone when we are busy just to answer questions that are available elsewhere without human help.
  12. Understand that if you are waiting in line and you see us standing at our station but do not call you up it is not because we are ignoring it usually means we are doing something else such as helping another customer, finishing up a transaction, or maybe even trying to leave. We will get to you as soon as we can. Trust me, we don't like to see those long lines either.
  13. Above all else just be polite and friendly. It goes a long way. We are much more understanding and helpful when you are friendly and understanding. We are people too.
And that concludes my list for today. Trust me I could go on and on and on but I think that is enough for now. I hope that helps non bankers to understand what goes on a little better and maybe you can become a favorite customer :)
