Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part Four

So today is the fourth and final part of my mini series. How did it go for you? I know that I pushed myself and plan on keeping up some of the great habits I have been trying to create.

This past week was the twitter one which I will admit I slacked on a little bit. But only because I tend to not read blogs when I go home for the weekend so I still plan on tweeting some posts this week to make up for it so be on the look out for that. But without further ado here is my last tip on becoming a better blog friend. If you missed the past few weeks you can find them here, part one, part two, part three.

This week I wanted to focus on getting out of your usual routine of reading your favorite blogs and to get out there and see what is new or what you have been missing. This week is all about finding new blogs and reading a few of their posts. Even you choose not to stick around in the end you gave a shot. Isn't the best way to make new friends going out there and finding new friends.

Now if you need some suggestions on how to find new blogs here are a few:

  • click on the blogs of people who have commented on blogs you already read
  • click on those sidebar ads
  • search in bloglovin. they have a great search that even lets you specify of you are looking for newer blogs or popular ones that you might not know about.
I understand the overwhelming feeling of following too many blogs so you may be thinking that this is insane but really just try it, you never know you may find your new blog bestie :)

Challenge: Find one new blog per day and read at least three of their most recent posts. If you feel so inclined even leave a meaningful comment.

Goal: Find new blogs that you love. Find new friends.

So I hope that you enjoyed this little series. Tell me what you thought of it! Are they things that you will try to continue doing. Did it help you become more involved? Did you hate it? <--If you did don't tell me. haha but really let me know what you thought! Hopefully you were able to find some new friends and/or improve your current friendships.

Cave Tour & Wine Tasting

Hello!! Happy Thanksgiving week :) I don't know about you but Wednesday cannot come fast enough. I can't wait to get back home and start cooking watching Jamal cook up some delicious food. But that's not for a few days still so let's rewind.

Friday: When I got off work I headed to Stillwater to meet up with Jamal and Ashley & Christian for a cave tour with a wine tasting at Luna Rossa. It was really cool to walk through the cave and learn about it while also tasting some good wine.

After the tour we went across the street to Smalley's Caribbean BBQ so that Jamal could try the hottest wings, the Triple Six wings made with ghost peppers in the sauce! He ordered them as an appetizer so they came up first. We of course had to record the whole thing so he never forgets it haha. He ate one whole wing...and was done. He was literally sweating so much I would have believed him if he said he just got done working out. His mouth was on fire. It was sure a sight to see. Christian chickened out and wouldn't try them but it was worth it to watch Jamal eat one. And the next day we convinced my sister to eat one if we bought her DQ. It wasn't as hot as it was the night before but her mouth was still burning. Pretty funny to watch.

Saturday: I watched some TV early in the day and just hung out with Colby Jack until later in the afternoon when we went to go visit my grandma. Earlier this month she had a couple surgeries that ended up with a close call but thankfully she is still here and doing much better. She is now in a nursing home until she is well enough to go back home. So we stopped by to see her and check out her new place.

When we got home we took a few quick pictures for Christmas cards outside where it was freezing and then we went grocery shopping and got chick fil a for dinner.

Sunday: Was a lazy day. Played with Colby Jack and just stayed inside staying away from the insane wind!

It was a fun weekend for sure and I can't wait to go back home in just a few days to eat crazy amounts of food and spend time with family.

That Time I Got Held At Gunpoint

As I was browsing facebook the other day I came across the post below about a cop chase near my home that ended at a Holiday Gas Station and I was quickly reminded of why I hate Holiday gas stations so much.

I have driven by countless Holiday's and more often than not there are cops there and someone's car is getting searched or they are getting arrested. I don't understand why they always pick Holiday, but they do. And one time I was caught in the middle of it all.

I was a freshmen in high school I think, or maybe younger not sure. Well anyway I was in the car with my mom and she wanted to stop at Holiday to grab something so she pulled right up front, parked the car, and ran in. So while I am sitting in the car minding my own business all of the sudden I look over and there is a gun in a my face!!

I freaked out. I had no idea what to do and I just didn't want to die. So I slowly put my head down, attempted to raise my hands (that's what you're supposed to do right) and cried. So I am hunched over crying when my mom comes back and opens the door quick as a bunny, when I realized it was her I tried to explain what had just happened and the gun holders (I later discover there were many) were still outside of my window. So she pulls out of there as fast as she can and were off. While she is pulling out she points out to me that they were COPS!!

They were arresting someone in the car next to ours. Well how I was to know this? I just saw some man in black clothes stand next to my car holding a gun.

It was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. And that my friends is why I hate Holiday gas stations.

P.S. While I was finishing up this post the glass cover over my ceiling light in my bedroom fell and shattered!! All over my floor and my bed and my desk. And of course my room is a mess so all over my clothes as well. And again I almost died. So that was fun to clean up.
This was after most of the big pieces were picked up.

A Short Rant About Cell Phone Service

Cell phones, or more specifically cell phone service. Everyone has it...unless you are a Sprint customer.

I used to belong to the very hated T-Mobile club until Jamal convinced me to switch over to the "good" side aka Sprint. Well little did I know that Sprint was headed downhill, and fast. Ever since I have joined the "great" sprint service I have had nothing but dropped calls and terrible cell service.

Everyone knows how vital cell service is. Without it I can't check my instagram or twitter feed 500 timers per day and I miss perfect opportunities to upload pictures of my dinner.

Not only that but how am I supposed to call home every twenty minutes to make sure that Colby Jack is okay?

It's outrageous right? How can they expect me to be a good blogger and puppy mom if I have crappy cell service?

This little rant ( that is slightly exaggerated in terms of my phone use and NOT how bad the service is) was inspired by Carissa. If you are one of the unfortunate ones that have Sprint service too then let's just take a minute and cry together. And if you don't. Well then count yourself lucky and stay far away from them!

Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part Three

Here we are for the third installment of becoming a better blog friend. This edition is all about using Twitter to your advantage. But first tell me how last week went? Did you try harder to respond to comments faster? I know I did :)

Alright so for this weeks topic...I know some of you out there are Twitter experts but I imagine some of you are like me and are more of the browsing type. I tend go through my twitter feed everyday and even click on some posts but I am lucky if I tweet once per day. Guess I'm still kinda a newbie and don't know what I'm doing.

Well thanks to this challenge I can guarantee that this week I will for sure tweet once per day at least. This week we are going to try to use Twitter to our advantage to try and make/improve friendships. As you go about your daily blog readings this week look for one that stands out to you. One that is worthy of you tweeting.

So I know that a lot of blogs that take sponsors do this already but how great would it be to do just because you liked their writing and not because they paid you? If that's not a great compliment/possible conversation starter then I don't know what is.

So yes this week's challenge is about sharing posts you've enjoyed but maybe also focus this week on just being more active on Twitter in general. Like I said I am more the silent lurker but Twitter is a great way to get to know other bloggers.

Challenge: Tweet one post per day this week of another bloggers that you loved

Goal: Be more active on Twitter and hopefully start some convos

Thanks for coming back and reading my little mini series :) If you missed parts 1&2 you can find them here and here.

Also if you are on Twitter lets be friends! You can find me @blissfullybritt where can I find you?

Fall Pictures

Remember when Jamal and I took a trip to a nearby park to take pictures with Ashley and Christian? Well she finally got the pictures back to me, well half of them anyway. The other half are trapped on her camera hopefully to one day be seen again but for now these will have to do. I'd say they turned out pretty decent. But I'll let you decide for yourself.

These last two are my absolute favorite. These were the last pictures we took and it was getting dark out.

Who doesn't love a good photo shoot just for the fun of it??
*please excuse the crappy phone camera quality and focus on our beautiful smiles :)

About Me: Weird Habits

Today seemed like a good day to share some of my weird habits so that you could get to know me better. Everyone loves a good About Me post right? So I present to you: About Me: Weird Habits edition.

1. Some people are morning showerers and some people are night showerers (apparently showerers is not a word, too bad spell check). Most people I come across have a shower routine. Not me though, I do not discriminate. I'm a take-a shower-whenever-I-feel-like-it showerer. Morning, midday, or evening I do not have a preference. Well except for going to bed with wet hair, that I hate. And that brings me to my next point.

2. Going to bed. Or more accurately how I never utilize all of my bedding. I hate sleeping under sheets. They get tangled and are claustrophobic and they are always falling off. I hate them. So I put my sheets on my bed and sleep on top of them. Problem solved. I only sleep under my cozy comforter.

3. I am pretty sure that I can blame Jamal for this one. He always gets seconds and I guess I wanted to join the party so now I always take small portions of food my first time around so that I can get seconds. Maybe I am imagining this but it makes me feel like I am eating more. Is this normal?

4. Speaking of food, I have come to realize that most people have a preference for spoon or forks. Unless you eat at Taco Bell all the time then you use sporks. I am mot definitely a spork person but I do like my forks.

5. Remember in elementary school when they taught you how to hold a pencil. Yeah I failed at that part of life. I could never get it and had my own way of holding my pencil. It worked for me so I guess my teacher gave up on getting me to hold it right because to this day I can't write with a pencil the proper way.

Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part Two

So what did you think of last weeks challenge? How did you do? Was it difficult? I know for me it took a few days to get in the habit of commenting on every post. I would do good through a few blogs and then forget and read five without commenting. But once I got into it I think it was pretty easy, and might I say fun.

If you were commenting more keep it up this week. If you missed last weeks challenge you can still join and try out both last weeks and this weeks challenge today!!

So today's focus builds on what we did last week. We are talking about replying to comments that you get on your posts in a timely matter. The purpose of responding to your comments is so that you can interact with your readers. You can't make friends if you ignore them.

Responding to comments right away lets your readers know that you enjoy their comments and are glad that they are reading. I know that when I get a response to a comment from a week ago I have forgotten all about the post. I glance over their reply and move on. Same thing happens when I am responding to comments from a week ago. I feel like it was too long ago so I don't really have much to say back that would make them feel valued for taking the time to read and comment.

By responding you open up the opportunity for more conversation. They can reply to your reply! Again all this does is really open yourself up to get to know your readers better and hopefully build some great friendships out of it.

To add on to this weeks challenge if you are looking for something extra you can reply to replies that you get from your meaningful comments that you have been leaving.

Challenge: Reply to comments that you receive within 24 hours

Bonus: Reply to replies that you get from comments that you have left

Goal: Becoming a blogger that consistently replies to comments thus creating a relationship with your readers.

Do you struggle with replying to comments? Do you ever reply to replies??

Come back next Tuesday for part three: Becoming a blogger who uses twitter to show blog love to friends

This Is My Passion

Volunteer: a person who preforms a service willingly and without pay- dictionary.com

My hearts desire is to be able to help others in any possible way. My passion is volunteering.

I live to give to others. To help those in need. It has been a couple years since I have regularly volunteered but now I am volunteering at the YMCA two hours per week, and I love it.

It isn't much but it's something. The great thing about volunteering is that you give what you can. It doesn't even need to be on a weekly basis. It can be monthly or even yearly! Although if it is yearly I would encourage you to find some time to volunteer there at least twice a year.

One of my favorite places to give my time to is Feed My Starving Children. I love everything about this place and the great part is that they have locations all over the US and you don't have to volunteer regularly-go when you can. If you're looking for a good cause to give to check them out.

And if you are really too busy then that is okay. Non-profits always need some money to stay open and keep helping others :)

So my point here is everyone can do something. A little or a lot, no matter what is always appreciated.

So I challenge you to volunteer somewhere at least twice in the next year. You can never give too little (time or money) and I know that you can find an organization out there that you care about.

Where are some of your favorite places to volunteer your time?

A Birth Story of Sorts

homemade ice cream sandwiches in lieu of cake

November 6th, 1990. Thus far the greatest day of my life.

I graced the Earth with my presence. Although I don't recall much of the details... but that just means it was a really good day, right? So even though I don't remember it I can pretty much assure you that this is how it went down...

There were bright lights all over, ice chips were flowing and cries could be heard throughout the room. There were balloons galore and flowers all over the joint. The room exuding happiness bursting with pink and purple. And all of this was for little old young me, or should I say big? I was over 9 pounds.

So as you can tell I'm a pretty big deal and if I hadn't made my appearance at that exact time, well we all know you wouldn't be here reading this right now. So good thing 23 years ago to the day I decided** to make my grand entrance.

**I didn't actually have much choice in the matter, I was cut out

Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part One

So I have decided to do a little four week long mini series. Becoming A Better Blog Friend.

I love blogging and most definitely write for myself, but I also love the community of it and creating relationships. So to help me become a better blog friend (and maybe you too) I have a few tips that I will be sharing every Tuesday this month along with a weekly challenge that I will be doing.

First up...Comment More. I would say that on average I comment on less than 50 percent of the posts that I read. Often this is because I don't know what to say in reply, it doesn't mean that I didn't like the post. So to begin this little series/challenge off I am going to comment on every single blog that I read for one day this week.

Commenting helps to create those relationships. You can't really get to know someone if the relationship is always one sided-the writer, so that is where you the reader come in, to start that relationship off they need to know that you are out there.

But as you know a relationship takes time and effort. So commenting just once or twice a month isn't going to do much for you. They need to know that you are consistent and interested in what they have to say, interested in them as a person. So by commenting frequently you can start to develop a relationship with them.

It is more than just saying "great post" or "nice pictures". I'll admit that I am guilty of this and have done it, but to really create a relationship you need to be specific and invested. So for this challenge I am going to post meaningful and significant comments. By doing this, the intention is that they can find out about who you are and this can open up the opportunity for more of a conversation to follow.

Challenge: Comment on every post read during a 24 hour period one day this week

Goal: Become a frequent and meaningful commenter

So are you in? Will you join me this month as we together try and become better blog friends? Comment ;) and let me know your thoughts. How often do you comment on blogs? And are those comments meaningful?

Come back next Tuesday for part two: Becoming a blogger that consistently replies to comments

Part two, Part three, Part four

Hey!! Hope everyone had a great Halloween, mine was spent writing a paper. Lame.

This weekend was quite uneventful since I had to stay back at school. So it meant I got in plenty of TV time. Thank you Netflix. But there is a really good reason that I was stuck here and not home with my boys...I finally for real have a job. Exciting I know.

As you know job hunting/being unemployed has sucked. Especially with all the having a job then not wanting  it then not being able to take another one, so I am happy to say that I officially am employed and so very excited about it. I had orientation and training this weekend and my first day is Tuesday.

I am working at a new Mediterranean Grille, it is a fast casual place. The food is great, it is family owned, and I just love everything about it.

Other than that though my weekend was super low key. Like I literally sat and watched movies/browsed pinterest/read blogs all weekend long.

But I did get this picture yesterday morning.

Little Jonah wearing the onesie I bought him :) It says "I drool purple and gold" How cute is he? I would say one of the best pictures to wake up to.

Have a happy Monday friends
