It's A Love Hate Thing

I am so unmotivated to to do anything school related, it is causing me problems. Blah. But on a good note I came up with what I thought was a clever little post for today :)

I LOVE that this semester is almost done, just a couple more weeks, but I HATE that I only have a 2 week break since I am taking summer classes.

I LOVE that I am going to see JT in concert this summer in Chicago and get to hear that amazing voice live, but I HATE that it is still so far away.

I LOVE that I am going to hang out with some MN bloggers this week for a fun cooking class, but I HATE that where we are meeting is sooooo far away...jk Andrea ;) kinda.

I LOVE that it is almost summer time, but I HATE that the weather has been sucking- hopefully it was worth the wait for some sunshine.

I LOVE this little blog of mine and all of the blog friends I have made, but I HATE sometimes how much of a time sucker it can be.

I LOVE my morning tea on the way to school, but I HATE how it has me doing the potty dance in my car when I am still a half hour away from my destination.

What do you have a love hate relationship with today??

Dinner Gone Wrong and Baby Shower Fun

This Weekend I...
Had to work Friday night so that was pretty uneventful

This Weekend I...
Got Saturday night off last minute and Greg and Karissa invited us to go to Benihanas with them for dinner. A restaurant where they cook the food in front of you. It was my first time there and Karissa always raves about it. I hesitant to try it out only because I don't like seafood and that is one of the main things they serve.

The meal started out with our waitress breaking a glass on your flat top where they cook to dropping an egg on the floor. Then our chef came and shrimp is an app that is included with your meal, he just quickly put the shrimp on my plate before I could say no so that kinda ruined it. I got the lemon chicken for dinner with fried rice and well it was nothing special. To me it just wasn't worth the money to see some cool chef tricks, thats what food network is for :) so needless to say I was less than impressed.

This Weekend I...
got to see one of Jamals besties Jovon, he joined the Navy last year and is currently stationed in Connecticut,  it was really great to see him after over a year of him being gone.

This Weekend I...
Celebrated my godson Jonah with a baby shower for Karissa. A couple of her friends hosted it and they did a great job!!

Hope you had a fun weekend! Linking up with Sar and Syndal

Date Day: Twins Game Strike One

For the past month or so I had been telling Jamal how I wanted to go to a Twins game this year since we had never been and of course I love stadium hot dogs. So imagine my excitement when a fellow blogger Jess had some tickets she wasn't going to use. Yes please.

Wednesday I was so excited to go to the game and as a bonus Wednesday is $1 hot dog day. It was a cold rainy day but that did not deter us from putting on hats and mittens and going downtown. As soon as we got there we each got two hot dogs and a Mikes Lemonade and found our seats. After I was only one hot dog down and half my drink was finished they announced that they were cancelling the game because of the rain!!! Are you kidding me?

I was really disappointed that we got all the way out there only to not even see a game- but on the bright side we got our dollar hot dogs :) I am really looking forward to the rescheduled game and hope that we can make it and that it will be nice and sunny.
I wasn't sure who these guys were and if they're important or not so I took a picture :)

Material Things

Last night I had the craziest dream that our house blew up, we knew it was happening just minutes before so Jamal packed up a few of my things and we ran out. Once outside I was stressed about the things that I had lost, the items that I had spent time and money on that were now destroyed never to be seen again. I was upset.

I woke up from this dream and looked around my room, looked at all the things I own from the full closet to my pictures and crafts covering the ledge to thinking about the smaller things that have sentimental meaning and thinking about how sad I truly would be if I never saw them again.

But then I was thinking how I shouldn't be stressed over these material things. Because I am just blessed to have them at all. What about the kids that don't have a home and a bed to go to at night? They are just thankful for the few things they have with them and that they find a warm place to sleep, or what about those who have a house fire and really do lose everything? They are just glad that they and their family is safe. And then there are those that have lost friends or family like many did this week in Boston and those people, they are just happy to be alive and find comfort in the community that is helping.

So really I am so blessed and so fortunate that I actually do have these things and that my friends and family are safe and healthy. All those things that I was sad about in my dream? Yea, when you think about it they mean nothing. I am just grateful for my life. And I pray for those that are in need or feel hopeless or alone.

It is sad and such a tragedy that in this world there are so many that suffer and experience so much loss but I love that everyone can come together to help and support each other in times of need. I pray that those people in Boston can soon find peace and not live in fear and I pray that they are comforted and safe.

Wedding Bells... Maybe My Ears Are Just Ringing

Hey Friends!! It has been too long since my last post. But seriously life here is so boring these days. I am just focusing on finishing up with school for the semester and trying to figure out the next year. But who wants to hear about that? No one. So I am here to chat a little bit about relationships, or more so a particular place that many family or friends fit in. For those that have ever been or are currently in a long term non marital relationship you will understand.

This next month Jamal and I will be coming up on year FOUR of being together. That is a long time. At least that is what everyone tells me and therefore we should get married NOW. Not that I don't want to or anything but jeeze if you ask me every time I see you the answer will be the same 'soon'.

Well with all this wedding talk getting into my head I have become OBSESSED! It is bad. I have never really been that girl that knows exactly how she wants her wedding to be...until now. All I do is dream of white dresses and pretty flowers while researching the perfect location.

Are you dreaming of cake tastings and wedding colors too?
All pictures can be found on my pinterest here
(in case you weren't sure no i'm not engaged...yet ;)

Date Day: Murder Mystery

Last night Jamal planned a surprise date for me. He told me were going to the Old Spaghetti Factory but that wasn't all. We went for a murder mystery dinner.

There were 3 main people who did the whole thing and they picked out random people from the audience to be suspects. We then had to go around questioning each suspect to get to the bottom of the murder.

All the while we were getting served up drinks, salad, chicken alfredo, and yummy spumoni ice cream. Jamal and I figured out who the murderer was so that was fun. He says we got it because we watch so many shows like Numbers, CSI, Bones, ect. I just think I paid good attention ;)

It was different having to get up and talk to these complete strangers and as soon I saw my dinner get to our table I was only interested in food haha but it was fun. Definitely a different date for us and I love trying out new things so it was good.

This past weekend as I mentioned we hung out with Greg and Karissa A LOT and got some good news. It is hard to believe that we have only known them for a year. It feels like we've been friends for much longer. We see them at least once a week for hours on hours and always have fun.

I am so grateful for the friendship we have with them and that they were brought into our lives. This past September they announced that they were expecting a little baby coming this June (here). I am so happy for them and cannot wait to meet their baby.

Over the weekend while we were celebrating Ninas birthday. G&K asked Jamal and I to be their sons (Jonah) godparents. We are so honored that they asked us and it makes me even more excited to spoil the little guy.

Godparents are such a unique and individual thing. Do your kids have godparents? You yourself? And what do you think the role of godparents should be? People that help children and encourage them in their faith? The people that would take your kids in if anything ever happened to you? Both? Neither? I have had this conversation with a  few people and I find it so interesting. Some godparents play a huge role in that childs life while others are more in the background. Do you even believe in having godparents? Let me know your thoughts. I'm curious.

Games, Games and More Games

It is Monday which means time for my weekend recap. We had a lot of fun with Greg and Karissa this weekend- we saw them every day.

This Weekend I...
Got an iPhone!! My old phone died every five minutes so it was time for a new one and lately I have been contemplating an iPhone so I did it. And so far I am loving it.
Sidenote: Help! I take most of my pictures using my phone and all the ones I uploaded for this post are blurry :( Any tips? I usually email them to myself and I did the large file, should I email the original size?

This Weekend I...
was so excited for my bestie Ashley. Her bf Christian came home from Afghanistan after being deployed there for almost a year. I cannot explain how happy I am for her that he is now home. It was a long and tough year for her so I am excited that he is home. And am so excited to finally meet him.

This Weekend We...
Got pizza for dinner and had game night at G&Ks with Dustin and Hayley too. Everyone was tired so it was an early night. But fun nonetheless.

This Weekend We...
Celebrated G&Ks daughter Ninas 5th birthday at Chuck E Cheese. Jamal had fun playing some games and then afterwards we went bowling. And for the first time ever I got 2nd place AND beat Jamal. Huge Deal!

We also got some exciting news that I will write about tomorrow.

This Weekend We...
G&K came over to play some more games and Jamal grilled for all of us. We were looking for something to watch on Netflix and found a documentary about the history of the game Monopoly  So of course we had to watch it while playing the game :) It got late so we paused our game and left it was it was to get back to next weekend.

Hope you had a fun weekend. Linking up with Sar and Syndal

Getting Organized

This past year life has been incredibly busy. I love it, but it make sit so easy to get distracted/forget about things and so I have been attempting to organize my life a bit better.

I have always used a planner. But I am trying to get more use out it.
Notice that section up there??

You see I used to make to-do lists on scraps of paper or the corners of notebooks. Sometimes sitting bored at work and sometimes while in class.
old disorganized way

While I was driving home yesterday I thought of my perfect planner-it would have a to-do list section for each week! Brilliant right? Well then I remembered the little notes section that sits at the bottom of each week of my current planner and figured that was a good place :)
Perfect! Everything in one place

I like to use coupons. I am not an extreme couponer or anything but when I find a good one I want to save some money.
This is just a sampling..k so maybe I am a bit of a couponer ;)

Buuuuttttt I usually lose or forget about them. So I went to Target to buy this little handy dandy thing (in the dollar section!) to organize all my coupons, loyalty cards, and gift cards. I love it.

So just by doing 3 simple things I feel a whole lot more organized and ready to take on the day. What do you do to help yourself stay organized?

Cara Box Swap

For the month of April I participated in the Cara Box swap for my first time hosted by Kaitlyn . It was a really fun way to get to know some bloggers and create a friendship.

For March the theme of the box was things that start with the first letter of your partners name. I sent a fun little box to Britt, you can read about what I got her here. And I got my box from Brittany. Here are the fun little things she got for me.

A stuffed Bear

A picture frame for a picture of my Boyfriend

A shell to remind me of the Beach

A Book

A "B" that she decorated

She also wrote a sweet little note to me.

It was really fun doing this swap and will be doing it again in the future for sure! What are you favorite swaps to do??

Easter Fun

Hope everyone had a good Easter. Mine was very delicious, brunch and grilling!
Linking up with Sar and Syn

This Weekend I...
Went over to Nickels house to hang out with her, Jamie, and Elijah. We just sat around chatting, got chinese for dinner, and then played a few games before calling it a night. It was fun to see Elijah, he grows so fast! n
Blurry pic-as soon I tried to take a picture Elijah got up and started moving around

This Weekend I...
Got up early to go the 9am service at church so that we could beat the crowd to brunch. We decided to go out to eat this year. A lot of restaurants around here were not taking reservations so my mom left church about 10 minutes early to go and get in line for food. We all met at Granite City. The food was sooo good and they had bottomless mimosas. Yum!

This Weekend I...
Gathered up Jamal and my sister Elizabeth and we went over to Karissas dads for some games with her whole family. For dinner us ladies made a wal-mart run to get dinner and then the guys grilled up the hot dogs, brats and burgers we bought. 1st taste this year of a grilled was amazing!

Between Karissa and her siblings there were 6 kinds running around the house...hmm yea definitely reminded me that I am NOT ready for kids in the near future ;)

Also Happy April Fools day!! I love this day. Unfortunately I don't have any fun pranks planned this year-maybe I will come up with something clever for when I get home-but if you want to read about the time that I switched up my moms deodorant to a much more tasty item head on over to Erin's blog.
