A Year In Review

So Christmas is over and 2014 will be here tomorrow. I think I'm ready, I know it is going to be the best year yet. But 2013 was pretty darn good. And because I wouldn't be a real blogger if I didn't, here's my recap.

January. I did a few DIMyself projects, including a fail; homemade salsa, a fancy wreath, and a pizza failure. I also joined the rest of the world and got a Twitter!! Which I don't utilize nearly enough. And the best news of the whole month...Justin Timberlake announced his new album. This made me the happiest lady on planet Earth.

February. I did my first ever outfit post. I won't say I'm a pro or anything and will not be shifting to a fashion blogger anytime soon ever. But it was still fun. Also this month Jamal and I took a trip down to Treasure Island  for a fun night away with Greg and Karissa. Us girls played electronic bingo and I did my first ever pull tabs.

March. This month I met up with some of my favorite bloggers for a favorite things party. It is always fun getting together with them. I also celebrated my very 1st blogiversary. Crazy to see how far I have come. And finally I made the hard choice to move away from Jamal and down to school for the 13-14 school year. It wasn't easy but it has turned out to be the best thing for me.

April. Was in short supply of blog posts and therefore I don't have much to look back on. Two notable things were celebrating Easter out at a restaurant and eating brunch. Something we had never done before. 2013 did bring with many changes for our family holiday traditions but I won't complain. This was also the month that Greg and Karissa asked Jamal and me to be Jonah's godparents. We were/are so honored that they asked us and couldn't be happier.

May. Jamal and I celebrated our fourth year together. We went to a grilling and beer festival where we feasted on endless amounts of food and bevvies. I attended my first music festival with Jamal, Ashley and Christian and we only lasted about three hours and then we were out, so I dubbed us the Soundset Losers.

June. I had another blogger meet up. This time to mingle and indulge in insane amounts of chocolates. Jamal entered his first rib grilling contest. It was a very delicious experience and hope he does more this summer. Two cuties joined our lives this month. Jonah made his appearance. I am quite certain that he is the cutest baby ever. And then shortly after Colby Jack joined our family. We brought him home on the 30th and I don't think I have ever made a better decision.

July. This was a slow month for blogging. I was too busy working like crazy and saving money to move into my first ever apartment as well as stressing about the future. I did manage one decent post about the troubles I faced ahead and how I was feeling. And of course one of the biggest moments of my life. I saw my favorite musical man in my absolute favorite city. It was a good day.

August. I blogged about my rocky relationship with my mom. I spent my first night in my new apartment which wasn't easy but I survived and it has gotten easier. I also said goodbye to my old job and coworkers and of course ended the summer on a good note at the state fair.

September. I had approximately 54890 interviews between the months of August and September. Some weren't so great. I wrote of my crazy obsession with my dog. I truly never knew how much I could love a fluffy little puppy. We went to an apple orchard with Greg, Karissa, and family. And I had my first and so far only roomie night and got to know them a little better.

October. Jamal and I attended another food & wine festival. These things are the best and I recommend finding one in your area. I struggled with not having a job and having no idea where my life was going (I still don't but I am feeling better about things). Jamal went to Chicago and auditioned for MasterChef!! <-- Big Deal. And we celebrated his 24th birthday with friends.

November. I finally finally finally got a job and peace of mind. I celebrated my 23rd birthday and wrote a pretty humorous post I think. I started volunteering again which always makes my day and is a good way to start out my week. I did my first ever mini series for the month about becoming a better blog friend.

December. We went to my family's annual Christmas party. And we sent out our first ever Christmas cards as a little family of three. It is something that I hope to do every year from now on.

So that was my year in 12 short paragraphs. The good and the bad of it. I can't wait to see what 2014 brings, I know it will be worth the wait. Happy New Year friends!!

Christmas Card 2013

Hello friends! I hope that everyone enjoyed their Christmas :) Mine was lovely. My aunts and grandma came over to our house in the afternoon and for dinner we went to my cousins. It was a really fun time just being with family, eating, and drinking. Doesn't get much better than that.

This month I joined Janna's Christmas card swap. I got paired with P!nky. I had never read her blog before so it was fun to get to know her. She recently got married and used a gorgeous photo from her big day on her card.

This year we did Christmas cards with my family as well as just us for our friends. I was so excited to send out our first Christmas cards. It is was a momentous occasion.

Here is a clear picture of the photo we used.

and a crappy shot of the card from my phone.

Christmas cards are my newest obsession and I have decided that I will save them through the years and make a photo album with them. I cannot wait.

Well we are on our way to the new year! Let the festivities start. I love New Years!!

Life Update

I have so many thoughts running through my head and I want to get them all down but the organization is lacking. This past weekend was a whirlwind of emotions and thankfully a lot of stress was lifted by finalizing some things that had been in the air for a while.

  • Saturday my cousin who lives in Oklahoma came home for Christmas. I brought Colby J over to her house so that she could finally meet him.
  • I left Colby Jack alone with people he doesn't know very well for the first time (my aunt and grandma) and he was not a happy camper when I picked him up. I felt so bad.
  • I started a new job today, at a bank. I still have the one I started back in November but this new one is a much better fit for me.
  • I am going to NYC on January 3rd for a week!!!!! I am so incredibly excited and can't wait to see the city.
  • And the biggest and best news of all...
  • MY BEST FRIEND ASHLEY GOT ENGAGED!!!!! We had dinner with them Sunday night and they told us the good news. I am so happy for her and can't wait for the fun to begin.

And that is about all that I can manage for now. I hope that you all have a merry merry Christmas and get to enjoy time with your family.

Getting Cheeky

Being stuck at school because of work while everyone else is at home or on vacation makes for a not so exciting life. Thankfully this will be my last Christmas break living away from my family...okay so it will be my last Christmas break altogether but I am so excited to be with my family next year and not traveling back and forth all of the time because I work and live two hours away.

And all of that was just to say how boring and uninspiring my days have been lately. Well anyway I have a funny story to share to further prove the awkwardness that is my life.

Let me set the scene for you. It was last week and the day of my last final. I walk into the auditorium with a few minutes to spare and search for a seat. I find one just a few seats in and head for it. The seats in this room have the little desk on them that you can flip up and down.

Well the three guys that I had to walk past to get to my seat had their desks up and didn't put them down so that I could get by. Annoying, but whatever I got to my seat. So of course I was the first person out of the four of us to finish my test and had to maneuver my way back out of the row.

Considering that they didn't put their desks down when I walked to my seat and there was nothing even on them yet I assumed that they again wouldn't put them down while they were taking the test and I would just squeeze by again. WRONG. So very, very wrong. As I am standing directly in front of the first guy I had to pass he lifts up his desk to put it down. Why oh why? So as I am trying to pass by he is moving his desk it gets stuck between my butt!! Like the desk was literally in between my butt and I couldn't move and he couldn't move the desk. We were stuck like this. It literally felt like I was standing there for five minutes but in reality was probably just seconds. Eventually I freed my butt and scooted outta there as fast as possible.

But really talk about awkward/embarrassing/why me. It. Was. Terrible. There was nothing to do but laugh about the situation, get home as fast as I could to tell my roomie my latest adventure, and be thankful that it was the last class and I'll never see him again.

Can you believe it?? I sure can't! Or just don't want to. What has been your most awkward/embarrassing situation lately?

Friday Of Finals Week

Well I am alive. I made it though finals week and passed every single class. I would say that is an accomplishment. Sometimes I feel like a bit of a poser, I don't really study all that much in general and finals week is no difference. So to say that I made it through finals week alive is just like saying that I made it though the first test of the semester and every one thereafter. Nevertheless I did finish the semester so that is something.
This is usually my study pattern

This week has been less than exciting. I had most of the week off from work and therefore a lot of free time. Thanks to that I am almost done with Brothers & Sisters and will soon be on the lookout for a new show.

Last night while I was a free woman from school work my roommate still had a final to study for for today. That means that I had no one to talk to and was bored outta my mind. So then to entertain myself I drank a mini bottle of wine and then I was exhausted. I gotta go big or go to bed when I drink haha

And this post is just full of ramblings because my brain cannot operate properly now that I am on Christmas break for a month.

And so to end this Colby Jack is in a contest on facebook to be the Cover Dog of the month on Side Walk Dog's page. If we win then we will get free carpet cleaning for three rooms in our house which would be so nice for my mom since she let us get Colby Jack and he has in thanks left many bodily fluids for us to find on the carpet.

So please, please go here, like the page and vote for us :) Thank you so much!! Enjoy your weekend friends.

Look at this face, how could you not?

Mid-Week Laugh Guaranteed

If you need a little pick me up on this cold (at least where I am, it's -1) Wednesday you have to watch this video. Your day will be made and I promise you will laugh.

It worked right? I had tears down my face from laughing so hard. This is exactly how Colby Jack looks with his boots on.

Growing Pains

It is so hard to believe that I have already and only have had Colby Jack for five months now. I can't believe that my little baby has over doubled in size. I have no idea of hos actual weight but I am estimating it to be around ten pounds. That may not seem like a lot but considering that when we got him he was around 3 it is.

He is just so big now. I remember when we first brought him home and he basically had to be carried everywhere. He wouldn't go up and down stairs, jump on the couch, and we were able to play with him outside off leash without him going anywhere and if he did try to he was too little to get anywhere before we caught him anyway.

Now he is no longer that little baby. He gets into all kinds of trouble like digging in the garbage or jumping on the couch and sneaking food when we aren't looking. But with those naughty things he has also grown to be the sweetest little puppy I know.

When he first came home all I wanted was for him to sleep on me when he napped and snuggle but it never happened. These days all I have to do is lay on the ground and he runs right over to lay by me. Or if I put him on the couch while I am watching TV he will lay right next to me and rest his head on my leg. And when he does that it makes me the happiest dog mom around.

He always makes me laugh because he just does the funniest things. Whenever Jamal and I hug for longer than 2 seconds Colby Jack runs over to join in because he feels left out and starts jumping on us.

Another funny thing he is does is when he wants to play he grabs something he knows he shouldn't have and runs under the dining room table as fast as he can to get out attention. Then we have to chase him around the house until we catch him (I never really try to catch him and just keeping chasing- he loves it)

And my newest source of entertainment from him is that I bought him some boots over the weekend because he doesn't seem to like the snow. It is the funniest thing to watch him hop around in them in the snow. Seriously, endless laughs.

I really never knew how much I could love a little four legged animal or how much love he could give me. No matter if I haven't seen him for a week or for just 30 minutes he is always so excited to see me walk in that door and I will never get sick of that.

And so it is crazy how fast this little boy of mine is growing. I am so grateful that he is mine and I get to watch all of it happen.

Oh The Weather Outside Is Frightful

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I think most parts of the US experienced some sort of winter weather. For us it was freezing temps, as in below zero, and some snow. So other than the part about stepping outside and instantly turning into an icicle it was a pretty good weekend.

Friday was spent inside trying to stay warm. In other words lots of cuddle time for me, Colby Jack, and Jamal.
My little cuddle bug

Saturday night I babysat Riley. We watched The Incredibles, the fun thing about babysitting is watching all the kid movies that I love but still wouldn't watch on my own. I was also insanely jealous of their tree this year. It is flocked with pink ornaments and pearls. It is so gorgeous; this picture does not do it justice.

Sunday Jamal had the day off for a Christmas party that didn't happen so it was nice to be able to spend some extra time with him. Our family went to church in the morning for our annual Christmas Special, after that we went to Costco for some samples...and groceries but mostly the samples ;) And later that night was my annual family Christmas party, Pasquale's. It was really fun and nice to have especially considering that my grandma is usually the host but she is still in the nursing home. We were still able to have it at her home and she was able to come out for a few hours to see everyone.
the most delicious snowman gingerbread truffles.

Santa even made an appearance!

This time of year reminds me of how much I love my family and really makes me think whether or not I would be able to move away from them all. As much as I want to go out on my own and discover the world I can't help but think how much I would miss these traditions.

So that was my weekend, short and simple. The downtime was welcome though knowing that this week brings with it a lot of study time for finals. Three more to go and I will be free on Thursday morning!!

It's A Love Hate Thing

Sometimes there is nothing else to do but boil my life down to the things I love and hate about it. So here is another edition of it's a love hate thing.

I LOVE reading and seeing pictures of JT's concerts on twitter and insta. But I HATE that my chance to see him again is still two months away.

I LOVE that the holiday's are here and with them the fun, family, and good times they bring. But I HATE how fast they go by.

I LOVE thinking of and buying the perfect Christmas presents for my friends and family. But I HATE that I don't have an unlimited budget.

I LOVE that I live somewhere that has a white Christmas. But I HATE that the snow stays 3-4 months after Christmas.

I LOVE having and job-especially one that involves free food. But I HATE not being able to spend all of my Christmas break at home with my two favorite guys.

I LOVE being in college and getting a month off for Christmas. But I HATE that I have to get through finals first.

I LOVE blogging and reading books and watching TV. But I HATE that there isn't enough time in the day to spend on these favorite hobbies of mine.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Happy December friends!! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and stayed full over the weekend with leftovers. I am in my final stretch of the semester and am so ready for a break. Two weeks and counting!!!

My weekend recap is going to be short and sweet because I only got to be home for less than two days since I had to work Friday morning. Here's to hoping that next year this time I'll have a career and be able to fully enjoy the four day weekend.

I got home Wednesday afternoon and played with Colby J until Jamal got home that night. Around 11pm we started cooking some dishes for Thursday.

Thanksgiving morning we woke up and finished all of the food up. Then we went over to my aunts for brunch. After brunch we went back home to rest up before heading to Jamal's mom's for dinner.

Colby Jack was lucky enough to partake in all of the Thanksgiving events as well so we was definitely wore out by the end of the night.

So that was my weekend in a few short paragraphs. Nothing major but it is always nice to spend some time with family while indulging in crazy amounts of food and pumpkin pie ☺

Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part Four

So today is the fourth and final part of my mini series. How did it go for you? I know that I pushed myself and plan on keeping up some of the great habits I have been trying to create.

This past week was the twitter one which I will admit I slacked on a little bit. But only because I tend to not read blogs when I go home for the weekend so I still plan on tweeting some posts this week to make up for it so be on the look out for that. But without further ado here is my last tip on becoming a better blog friend. If you missed the past few weeks you can find them here, part one, part two, part three.

This week I wanted to focus on getting out of your usual routine of reading your favorite blogs and to get out there and see what is new or what you have been missing. This week is all about finding new blogs and reading a few of their posts. Even you choose not to stick around in the end you gave a shot. Isn't the best way to make new friends going out there and finding new friends.

Now if you need some suggestions on how to find new blogs here are a few:

  • click on the blogs of people who have commented on blogs you already read
  • click on those sidebar ads
  • search in bloglovin. they have a great search that even lets you specify of you are looking for newer blogs or popular ones that you might not know about.
I understand the overwhelming feeling of following too many blogs so you may be thinking that this is insane but really just try it, you never know you may find your new blog bestie :)

Challenge: Find one new blog per day and read at least three of their most recent posts. If you feel so inclined even leave a meaningful comment.

Goal: Find new blogs that you love. Find new friends.

So I hope that you enjoyed this little series. Tell me what you thought of it! Are they things that you will try to continue doing. Did it help you become more involved? Did you hate it? <--If you did don't tell me. haha but really let me know what you thought! Hopefully you were able to find some new friends and/or improve your current friendships.

Cave Tour & Wine Tasting

Hello!! Happy Thanksgiving week :) I don't know about you but Wednesday cannot come fast enough. I can't wait to get back home and start cooking watching Jamal cook up some delicious food. But that's not for a few days still so let's rewind.

Friday: When I got off work I headed to Stillwater to meet up with Jamal and Ashley & Christian for a cave tour with a wine tasting at Luna Rossa. It was really cool to walk through the cave and learn about it while also tasting some good wine.

After the tour we went across the street to Smalley's Caribbean BBQ so that Jamal could try the hottest wings, the Triple Six wings made with ghost peppers in the sauce! He ordered them as an appetizer so they came up first. We of course had to record the whole thing so he never forgets it haha. He ate one whole wing...and was done. He was literally sweating so much I would have believed him if he said he just got done working out. His mouth was on fire. It was sure a sight to see. Christian chickened out and wouldn't try them but it was worth it to watch Jamal eat one. And the next day we convinced my sister to eat one if we bought her DQ. It wasn't as hot as it was the night before but her mouth was still burning. Pretty funny to watch.

Saturday: I watched some TV early in the day and just hung out with Colby Jack until later in the afternoon when we went to go visit my grandma. Earlier this month she had a couple surgeries that ended up with a close call but thankfully she is still here and doing much better. She is now in a nursing home until she is well enough to go back home. So we stopped by to see her and check out her new place.

When we got home we took a few quick pictures for Christmas cards outside where it was freezing and then we went grocery shopping and got chick fil a for dinner.

Sunday: Was a lazy day. Played with Colby Jack and just stayed inside staying away from the insane wind!

It was a fun weekend for sure and I can't wait to go back home in just a few days to eat crazy amounts of food and spend time with family.

That Time I Got Held At Gunpoint

As I was browsing facebook the other day I came across the post below about a cop chase near my home that ended at a Holiday Gas Station and I was quickly reminded of why I hate Holiday gas stations so much.

I have driven by countless Holiday's and more often than not there are cops there and someone's car is getting searched or they are getting arrested. I don't understand why they always pick Holiday, but they do. And one time I was caught in the middle of it all.

I was a freshmen in high school I think, or maybe younger not sure. Well anyway I was in the car with my mom and she wanted to stop at Holiday to grab something so she pulled right up front, parked the car, and ran in. So while I am sitting in the car minding my own business all of the sudden I look over and there is a gun in a my face!!

I freaked out. I had no idea what to do and I just didn't want to die. So I slowly put my head down, attempted to raise my hands (that's what you're supposed to do right) and cried. So I am hunched over crying when my mom comes back and opens the door quick as a bunny, when I realized it was her I tried to explain what had just happened and the gun holders (I later discover there were many) were still outside of my window. So she pulls out of there as fast as she can and were off. While she is pulling out she points out to me that they were COPS!!

They were arresting someone in the car next to ours. Well how I was to know this? I just saw some man in black clothes stand next to my car holding a gun.

It was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. And that my friends is why I hate Holiday gas stations.

♥Brittany

P.S. While I was finishing up this post the glass cover over my ceiling light in my bedroom fell and shattered!! All over my floor and my bed and my desk. And of course my room is a mess so all over my clothes as well. And again I almost died. So that was fun to clean up.
This was after most of the big pieces were picked up.

A Short Rant About Cell Phone Service

Cell phones, or more specifically cell phone service. Everyone has it...unless you are a Sprint customer.

I used to belong to the very hated T-Mobile club until Jamal convinced me to switch over to the "good" side aka Sprint. Well little did I know that Sprint was headed downhill, and fast. Ever since I have joined the "great" sprint service I have had nothing but dropped calls and terrible cell service.

Everyone knows how vital cell service is. Without it I can't check my instagram or twitter feed 500 timers per day and I miss perfect opportunities to upload pictures of my dinner.

Not only that but how am I supposed to call home every twenty minutes to make sure that Colby Jack is okay?

It's outrageous right? How can they expect me to be a good blogger and puppy mom if I have crappy cell service?

This little rant ( that is slightly exaggerated in terms of my phone use and NOT how bad the service is) was inspired by Carissa. If you are one of the unfortunate ones that have Sprint service too then let's just take a minute and cry together. And if you don't. Well then count yourself lucky and stay far away from them!

Becoming A Better Blog Friend: Part Three

Here we are for the third installment of becoming a better blog friend. This edition is all about using Twitter to your advantage. But first tell me how last week went? Did you try harder to respond to comments faster? I know I did :)

Alright so for this weeks topic...I know some of you out there are Twitter experts but I imagine some of you are like me and are more of the browsing type. I tend go through my twitter feed everyday and even click on some posts but I am lucky if I tweet once per day. Guess I'm still kinda a newbie and don't know what I'm doing.

Well thanks to this challenge I can guarantee that this week I will for sure tweet once per day at least. This week we are going to try to use Twitter to our advantage to try and make/improve friendships. As you go about your daily blog readings this week look for one that stands out to you. One that is worthy of you tweeting.

So I know that a lot of blogs that take sponsors do this already but how great would it be to do just because you liked their writing and not because they paid you? If that's not a great compliment/possible conversation starter then I don't know what is.

So yes this week's challenge is about sharing posts you've enjoyed but maybe also focus this week on just being more active on Twitter in general. Like I said I am more the silent lurker but Twitter is a great way to get to know other bloggers.

Challenge: Tweet one post per day this week of another bloggers that you loved

Goal: Be more active on Twitter and hopefully start some convos

Thanks for coming back and reading my little mini series :) If you missed parts 1&2 you can find them here and here.

Also if you are on Twitter lets be friends! You can find me @blissfullybritt where can I find you?

Fall Pictures

Remember when Jamal and I took a trip to a nearby park to take pictures with Ashley and Christian? Well she finally got the pictures back to me, well half of them anyway. The other half are trapped on her camera hopefully to one day be seen again but for now these will have to do. I'd say they turned out pretty decent. But I'll let you decide for yourself.

These last two are my absolute favorite. These were the last pictures we took and it was getting dark out.

Who doesn't love a good photo shoot just for the fun of it??
*please excuse the crappy phone camera quality and focus on our beautiful smiles :)
